Low temperature impact resistance

 

Pebax is known to have good elasticity, even at very low temperatures, resulting in excellent impact properties. Impact tests determine the amount of energy required to deform and destroy a material or structure at high velocity. Impact forces can be measured thanks to a number of methods, but the most accepted techniques by Pebax are the Izod or Charpy tests. The energy required to destroy the material is obtained by calculating the difference in energy of the pendulum before and after impact. Tests can be performed at room and low temperatures at the same time, using a variety of sample geometries and notch types. Regardless of the method available, Pebax materials exhibit excellent impact resistance at room and low temperatures.

 

Processability

 

Pebax has excellent processability in every major thermoplastic processing technology, mainly injection molding and extrusion (cast film, blown film, plate, tube, etc.). Depending on the selected Pebax grade and injection molding conditions, the shrinkage of Pebax will typically vary from 0.5% to 1.5%. Compared to other thermoplastic elastomers, especially TPU, the rheological properties of Pebax allow for a wider range of processing temperatures. Pebax can be injected into extremely thin parts, typically as small as 0.8 mm. It also enables short cycle times, high recyclability and accurate dimensional controllability.
